Dos Taquitos Centro

Dos Taquitos has been located off of Creedmoor Road for years and they have recently opened up a second location on Wilmington Street downtown. I have met dozens of people who tell me that Dos Taquitos is their favorite mexican restaurant and Dos Taquitos Centro seems to be following the same trend.

Dos Taquitos Centro is not your typical mexican restaurant. You can tell from the moment that you step into the restaurant. The decorations are different to say the least, but they really give this restaurant all of it's charm. A colorful, eclectic mix of mexican artwork and nick knacks. This downtown location of Dos Taquitos is not very large. They have a small bar which is located in the back of the restaurant and a dining room which will probably accommodate about 45 people. Dos Taquitos Centro likes to focus on fresh. They are the only mexican restaurant, I know of, that offers freshly squeezed orange juice at the bar. They even get all of the goat cheese they use in their dishes from a local farm in North Carolina.

I had heard that the steak tacos were wonderful and that I had to try them. They are really popular, because all five of the people in my dinner party ordered them. While we were waiting for out food we of course had chips and salsa as well as a cup of corn soup. The corn soup had a creamy broth and then lots of kernels of white corn. It was actually pretty tasty. The steak tacos all came out very quickly from the kitchen. The dish had two steak tacos, rice and pureed black beans. The steak had a great flavor and was pretty tender. Overall, they were very good steak tacos. After dinner there are a couple of dessert options, bread pudding and chocolate flan. I tasted of the flan and it was really great. It has the consistency of caramel, but it tasted like chocolate. You should definitely save room for that dessert.

At the end of the meal the waitress brings out a little present in a decorative box. Inside you will find your bill. Hey, I guess if you're going to ask for people's money you might as well make it fun.

Dos Taquitos was a little bit more pricey than I expected, but I guess that comes with the territory downtown these days. You should give Dos Taquitos Centro a try. I think that you will find it to be a pleasurable experience.
